Hello Aussie Birders-

I depart Dallas, TX in less than a week for Sydney. My original well-laid plans have hit a snag. There has been a death in the family of my hostess in Wauchope (near Port Macquarie, NSW), and I now have a two-week "hole" in my trip.
I need to fill time from 6 Oct until 20 Oct.
I have a rail pass that I can use to get from place to place, going north toward Brisbane where I have accommodation starting on 20 October. If anyone has suggestions or if there are birders out there who would put me up a day or two and work in a birdwatching day trip, that would be great. Knowing that it is tourist season along the coast, I'm fearful I won't be able to find accommodation and certainly not reasonable accommodation. I am scheduled for a 10-week stay in Australia, ending up in Cairns to fly home on 6 December. Hopefully, the balance of my trip will stay intact! Please reply off list with any suggestions for reasonably-priced accommodation along that route.

Thank you in advance!
