Hi Lorne,

My guess is that since Pardalotes glean lerps and other insects from
leaves in the canopy then they are in direct competition for food with
honeyeaters, hence being regularly hounded from the top of eucalypts.

And another thing...

Why do other birds chase pardalotes???? In my neighbourhood, in Sydney's
inner-west, spotted pardalotes are regularly pursued by wattlebirds,
honeyeaters, miners etc. as if they are a pest. Surely a spotted
paradalote presents no threat to a bigger honeyeater! Are the birds
annoyed by the pardalote's call? Is the pardalote seen as a competitor
re. available food sources? What's happening here????

I'd be interested in people's thoughts.

Lorne
