Phil, You make some good points. I have gobe through the report concerned (google environmental report DEH orange bellied parrot) and it covers all proposed wind farms across the entire range of OBP (ie it is not estimating 1 bird p.a. at Bald Hill). Further (pages 32-34) it goes into much detail on the birds existing mortaility (c 100 p.a.) and further states it implies that the incidence is likely to be under the lowest estimate of 0.84 birds p.a.. (based on 99% avoidance rate). One needs to read the report in full to understand the methodology and calculations (which do appear reasonable). Habitat conservation/acquisition/management as well as the continued breeding program will do far more for OBP than blocking even all the windfarms proposed. Regards, Graham Buchan |
