Steve Gross mentioned early buds on trees and warmer than usual weather in Orange, NSW.

On the front page of today's Sydney Morning Herald there's an article about the early flowering of plants such as daffodils, tulips and cherry blossoms in Sydney. A spokesperson from the Royal Botanic Gardens is quoted as saying that "everything is two weeks, if not three weeks, early", and a weather bureau officer confirms that Sydney in July was 0.8 degrees warmer than average while so far August has been 0.3 degrees warmer.

As for birds, this week on ABC Radio 702 a caller phoned to say they had already heard the first Koel in Sydney.

It will be interesting to watch the timing of other migrant arrivals and nesting.

cheers,

Carol

Some of the trees around Orange are beginning to bud which is very early for
halfway through August. In the past August has been much colder and has
snowed at this time of year and later.
