Field Guides for South America

My parents (lucky sods) are off on a short trip to South America later in the year, and I am looking at buying a field guide as a gift for their travels. Does anyone have any suggestions. They are off visiting Peru and Bolivia (including the Inca Trail) and then down to Patagonia for a couple of weeks. I know two different guides will be needed, but I am probably thinking about the Chile part (the birding might be a little easier there). They are not hard core twitchers but do have basic birdo skills so they are definitely not trying to see as many species as possible (just ID the obvious things around them). There is probably something in the archives (I will have a look tomorrow) but if anyone has any suggestions they will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Peter
