Greetings,
A word of warning for anyone planning to drop in to Brookfield
Conservation Park near Blanchetown, SA.
After driving the 1½ hours from Adelaide on Thursday, I discovered
a sign on the gate saying "closed due to works, for enquiries
ring blah blah". Not that it was going to do any good, I rang the
number and discovered there's a Mo-Camp (the spelling may be
different, that's how it sounded) with low-level prisoners doing
(presumably maintenance) work on the park, and it's closed until
late September.
I couldn't find any other accessible habitat of similar quality in the
vicinity, so it was a little frustrating, but I guess I've learnt to check
before I drive there again. Then I thought, maybe there's a website
of Conservation Parks and their open/closed status somewhere?
And there is:
http://www.parks.sa.gov.au/parks/parks_closures/index.htm
But it wouldn't have helped me, the closure to Brookfield isn't
listed, so I rang the department responsible for the website,
they said it was the responsibility of the appropriate regional
office to let them know. So theoretically, there is a website
to let you know these things in South Australia, and if that
information can be of use to anyone, good!
Cheers
Philip
