Folks, Re the injury it looks very much like bumblefoot, which I have seen lots of in gulls (look carefully at a flock of gulls and you'll find some examples) and domestic pigeons. Its generally not fatal but as many birds legs attest, the infection can result in necrosis with many birds having single or double 'stumps'.
