Marlene and Birding-ausers,
I have discussed Pied Butcherbirds in the Bendigo-Axedale area with
highly-regarded local birder, Peter Allan.
Peter told me that Pied Butcherbirds are not at all common in that area.
They are rarely sighted south of Elmore, a town about 40km north of Bendigo.
However, sightings are becoming more common, especially in winter when Pied
Butcherbirds move around more. They seem to be expanding their range
southwards.
They become increasingly common as one moves north into the NSW Riverina.
Over the past year or so, Peter has observed them north of Bendigo at Corop
(the name means 'sound of Brolga' and Brolgas still live in the vicinity)
and along the Raywood-Elmore Road (north-west of Goornong).
