Hi all
Went to the Wetlands Centre (Shortland Wetlands) just west of Newcastle NSW yesterday (Monday 12/6/06).
Every time i go there i say that i must go back more often.
Highlights were:
Spotless Crake (a new bird for me and many thanks to Nevil Lazarus for the tip of for location)
Little Grassbird
Striped Honeyeater
White-cheeked Honeyeater
Spangled Drongo
Fan-tailed Cuckoo
Eastern Spinebill
Rufous & Golden Whistlers
Aus Shoveler (flock of 10+ birds)
Hardhead
Hoary-headed & Aus Grebe
WB Sea Eagle
Whistling Kite
Swamp Harrier
Olive-backed Oriole
Pied Bucherbird (heard it making a call that sounded like a reversing truck - cool!)
Yellow Thornbill
Usual water birds including resident Magpie Geesse
+ number of others

I also saw an unidentified Robin (?). Most closely looks like a female Flame or Rose Robin I think but i am no expert. Darker Brown above with pale eye ring and pale ring around base of bill. paler underbelly. White flash on outside of wing.

Anyway a top spot and a great day out with my wife and father.

Cheers
