Dear Syd and others,

It is certainly amazing what things birds pick up and use. The brown falcons at
Werribee (ie the western treatment plant), mainly choose Little Raven nests
when they breed, and as such I see a fair bit of their nest linging handywork.

I won't go into the details, but suffice to say it is amazing what people flush
down their toilets and, in turn, ends up being used as nest lining by the
ravens (and also Black kites). Needless to say I always clean up before
eating....

Though the falcons also leave their own interesting items in the nest. I
remember once reaching up over my head into a nest I couldn't see into directly
and first grabbing a left over blue-tongue head, cold reptile skin not exactly
what I was expected and very unnerving!

Happy birding,
Paul

Hi Syd & everyone else,

Actually I don't know about the Satin Bowerinirds being deprived of condoms
in Royal NP to add to their bowers, but i saw a bower there which had, along
with other blue coloured objects, a brilliant blue-coloured 'Lifestyles'
condom packet! Cheers.
