Hi Greg,

I wasn't close enough to see bands but Chris Lester's photos would at least
show the presence or absence of bands. Given we were in western Victoria the
most likely source for this bird would I suspect be the breeding populations
in SA. Bob Green also emailed to let me know that one had been seen on a
coastal lake in south east SA very recently and suggested given the
proximity it may have been a SA bird. Off course unless it has a unique
plumage character that?s been documented at multiple sites or is banded
we'll probably never know.

Was it seen
closely enough to determine whether or not it was carrying colour bands.  A
bird that I colour-banded near Maclean, North Coast NSW was firstly
photographed at Narrabeen Lake near Sydney and more recently at Tabourie
Lake on the NSW South Coast.
