Hi Sean. I've just visited the Byron Bay treatment plant - modern,
compact, relatively easy to access, and with a specially designated wetland
habitat lagoon (freshwater - no untreated water). Neither species count nor
total number of birds was particularly high when I went (middle of the day).
Highlights were a single Black-necked Stork and a small flock of Plumed
Whistling Duck (and I believe Grass Owls have been seen in long grass areas
adjacent to the wetland lagoon - which are managed accordingly). It's a
very nice spot, seemingly with plenty of potential
I understand from the local staff that David Stewart/Stuart does regular
counts and presumably is the resident guru (does anyone have David's contact
Where and when is this publication going to see the light of day? I for one
will be most interested to see it. Regards. Richard

G'day to all,

I am currently working on a piece for publication about sewage farms around
Australia in which, among other things I am planning to list my top ten from
around the country. Swan Hill, Darwin, Broome, Alice Springs and of course
Werribee, are just some of the contenders on my list. I was wondering what
other birders thought. What is your favorurite sewage farm? It doesn't have
to be one of the biggies. I've had some great birding experiences in small,
one pond farms in outback towns so I'd be interested in hearing about any
and all of them.

You can respond to the list or to me privately and maybe if I get enough
responses I might tabulate a list of the top ten of Birding-aus members.

Be interested to see what responses I get.

Cheers, Sean Dooley
