I have seen Azures fishing in tidal zones - a quick check of my lists for 2005 tells me that I have seen them at Apple Tree Bay in Ku-Ring-Gai NP and at Williga Inlet in Meroo NP on the NSW South Coast. Perhaps the behaviour is not so unusual - the European Kingfisher is a regular inter-tidal fisher although is more easily associated in people's minds with freshwater streams. When I visit my parents in the SW of England, after two or three walks down to the tidal creek I will have picked up one or both of the local pair. Cheers Tom Wilson |
