Seems to be a good time for raptors around Brisbane and the Lockyer at the
moment.
There are a pair of Australian Hobby at Oxley Common, Rocklea, Brisbane
which are providing good opportunities for close range photography. The
pair are hanging around the wetland on the right as you walk towards
Pelican Island. They are hunting (rather successfully) dragonflies over the
water and perching on the cable which crosses the track and in the big gum
with the rusting 44 gallon drum high up in its branches. It is easy to get
very close to the birds.
Also present on Pelican Island yesterday morning was an immature Brown
Goshawk, and a Brahminy Kite and Brown Falcon were circling above the
common and intermittently attacking each other. Nankeen Kestral were also
present.
Cheers, Pete
