G'day Hans
It's great to see that others have such affection for one of the most beautiful
of Australian Parrots. I agree with you that the humble "bush budgie" is
superior to "show budgies". As usual, nature knows best and to see these
fantastic parrots amid the beauty of the Aussie outback is to know great
happiness.
I've seen wild budgerigars on many occassions and they appear to be the same as
the birds in your aviaries. There may be subtle differences but memories and
photographs don't tell the whole story. I plan to drop in on a friend at the
Australian Museum soon and may be able to take the time to measure several of
his wild budgie skins/skeletons and get some photographs of the plumage which
you might be able to compare closely. There is a system for comparing plumage
colouration and if you have access to the appropriate colour cards let me know
and I will be able to give you the colour numbers for a very accurate
comparison.
