Hi all,

About that Gerygone I asked you all to identify..................

I must reveal now that I believed it was most probably a Mangrove Gerygone, Gerygone levigaster and, being in SE Queensland, race cantator.
And that is now what I am claiming it to be.

Thanks to all who participated in the ID game. It has been interesting.

The bird was photographed on Bribie Island just north of Brisbane in SE
Queensland.
It was hovering around the edge of an area of mangroves and was actually photographed in a Casuarina bush.
The bird was not calling so I could not ID from the call.
I felt sure it was a Mangrove Gerygone but after reviewing my photos, all of the field guides, HANZAB Vol 6 and the two images of Mangrove Gerygone on the ABID (one image is mine taken many years ago) I was more than a little bemused. The field guide images are extremely varied and those in HANZAB are not what I would call "the best".

Nevil Lazarus sent me two magnificent images that he had taken of Mangrove Gerygone (made me feel quite inadequate!!) which certainly helped to convince me that 'my' bird was, indeed, a Mangrove Gerygone.

One last point: The two Atlases show records of Mangrove and Brown Gerygone in the square containing the area on Bribie Is where I photographed this bird. However, my information is that Brown Gerygone has not been recorded [yet] in that part of the square.

Once again, thanks to all who participated and to those who viewed from the
sidelines.
I enjoyed the exercise.

Cheers
