Hi Peter,
Pleased you saw the Sooty Owl. As a matter of interest, was the strangler
fig the very big one - open at the base - you walk through on the track? We
lived at Dandabah from 1988-1995, and there was always a Sooty Owl high in
that tree - I used to call to it as we approached and generally it would
call back. I don't suppose, 11 years later, it could still be the same owl?
Cheers
Bob

I was fortunate enough to get my first observation of a Sooty Owl in Bunya
Mountains over the easter break. The bird is resident in a strangler fig
which the scenic circle walk (from Dandabah) passes through not far from
the track entrance. A difficult one to spot in the semi darkness and a real
neck craner but nonetheless a real thrill to tick this elusive species!
cheers
peter
