Definitely Square-tailed Kite. The fingering and the pale face are definite
ID signs. Not certain of age.
A good sighting (probably migrating north for the winter). Cheers, Peter From: "Mike Simpson" <> To: "Birding-Aus (E-mail)" <> Subject: [birding-aus] Raptor ID Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2006 20:26:03 +1000At the risk of being criticized once more for asking for help here, I wouldappreciate help with the following bird ID. http://members.optusnet.com.au/ozbird2/Kite1.jpg http://members.optusnet.com.au/ozbird2/Kite2.jpg I was sitting in my yard without my books or bins, but with my camera tohand when I heard a lot of commotion in the surrounding trees, and the abovebird circled at low level followed by squadrons of Ravens, Noisy Miners and Magpie Larks. I managed to grab a couple of shots before it flew away. The bird had a light coloured head and square cut tail and was very large even when compared to a Raven.I am thinking of an immature Square-tailed Kite from my book, but would likethis confirmed/debunked etc. Regards, Mike Simpson Penrith, NSW, Australia =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.com To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.comTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== |
