Ref: Stokes Hill Lookout is just off the Hawker/Blinman road which runs east
of the Flinders Ranges, SA.

Four Sydneysiders targeted the Short-tailed Grasswren there last week. While
we saw one bird near three marker posts with blue triangles 80-120 metres
south-southeast of the lookout, by far the best area was one referred to by
John Barkla in an email to birding-aus of 15 January 2005.

1 km south-southwest of the lookout some low, Spinifex covered rocky hills run
on for another 500 metres. On reaching the hills you will see a washout to the
right and a gully to the left. The gully leads to a fence line running on the
southeast side of the hills.

We found many birds there, particularly in the gully and along the fence line.
They are shy and elusive. If weather conditions or time of year are
unfavourable, they may need to be attracted to the observer.

Willow Springs property, situated 3 km on foot and 6 km by road from the
Lookout offers convenient cottage accommodation.
