One of the local minor water supply dams in Orange NSW has been totally
drained to allow a upgrade to the dam wall. Spring Creek dam is known for
it's waterbird life. Many species of duck, ibis, spoonbills and black swan
as well as various species of frogs frequent the dam.. No more bird watching
around the dam till probably next Spring fill. About two years ago there
was a dispute between council, the Orange Field Naturlist Society and a
local boarding college. The school wished to use the dam for rowing practice
but the OFNS thought that it would disturb the bird life. The dam does not
have open public access so the birds lead a quiet undisturbed life. The
college won.
