Hi Tom
Sanderlings do turn up every now and then at Long Reef. I had a few
(about 4 from memory) a few years ago and I think also on another
occasion.
Cheers!
Edwin

Subject: Long Reef & Dee Why, Sydney 19 March
Hi all
I visited Long Reef and Dee Why lagoon on Sydney's northern beaches
early
this morning. Despite the drizzle/heavy showers, there were some good
birds
to be seen, including:
At Long Reef
Little Grassbird and Buff Banded Rail (at the ponds on Long Reef Golf
Course)
1 Caspian Tern (on the north side)
Good numbers of Red Necked Stint and Ruddy Turnstone
2 Double Banded Dotterel
2 Golden Plover
1 Grey Tailed Tattler
12 Sooty Oystercatchers
1 Reef Egret and 2 White Faced Herons
The shearwaters and other pelagic species were a long way out today
At Dee Why
3 Caspian Terns
1 Collared Sparrowhawk
At Long Reef, in with the Stints, were two very pale birds that caused
some
initial thoughts of Sanderling, until they flew and showed their black
rump/tail stripe as well. None of the stint were colouring up - they
were
all still very pale grey/brown.
Cheers
Tom Wilson
