Raven with pebble - to what end?

Hi Tom,

What is it with Ravens and hard things?  I once watched a Raven playing with a golf ball on my neighbour's roof.  It would take the ball up the slope of the roof, let it go and the ball would roll down and land in the gutter.  Each time it tried this, it would go higher and higher up the roof to see what effect the ball had until, in the end, it took the ball almost to the top of the roof, let it go and the ball rolled down, bounced off the gutter and on to my neighbour's car, setting off the alarm.

When my neighbour ran out to see if someone was breaking in to her car, I had to try and explain to her what happened as the car alarm had scared the bird off!

There was a tiny dint, about the size of hail damage, in the car and the offending golf ball wasn't far away.

Perhaps your raven had similar ideas with his stone?

Cheers,

Inger
