Hi Belinda
Given the tight energy budgets of these birds
(you might recall Danny Rogers' excellent talk on this at the Shorebird
Disturbance Monitoring Workshop in the mudlab), it may well be that the birds
were practicing energy conservation. It just appeared that they were being
lazy.
