A spotless crake was feeding among bulrushes on southern edge of the "grotty pond" near playground at Banyule Flat yesterday evening (Melway 32 F1).  It could be seen from the gate beside bike-path at northern end of pond, no need to jump the fence.  Mostly it stayed in dense cover but once it emerged and fed along shore for less than a minute.  I saw it there a couple of weeks ago too.  It's not a wonderful viewing opportunity (in contrast to the Buff-banded Rails, which often perform well), but may be of interest to some.  There is no advantage in entering the fenced area, better to stay out and minimise disturbance.  Cheers, Richard.
