I'd say that 6-8 MP DSLRs are a dime a dozen. The key performance factors for the bodies would relate to the accuracy of the metering, exposure selection, autofocusing and the quality of the CCD. The price factor is also a product of the bells and whistles associated with the CPU, and possibly the processing speed.

The bottom line, however, is that the camera can only process what it gets through the lens. A flash body with a crap lens will not get you great pix, particularly at the longer focal lengths. The problem with el cheapo lenses aren't so obvious at the shorter focal lengths, but things tend to get fuzzy and distorted around the edges once you get past 150-200 mm.
