The highlight of our annual holiday at Point Lonsdale was the boat trip out to Pope’s Eye.

Many may realize that Doug Blood has macula degeneration and relies on his digital SLR camera on “see” the birds, the images he takes in the field come up well on his large screen computer.

I will not go to sea in anything smaller than the Queen Mary so my brother & sister-in-law, Don & Rhonda Jennings, accompanied Doug on the trip. They went from Queenscliffe with David Golightly of Impulse Charters (m("pipeline.com.au","impulse");">) 0412 552959 and were most impressed by his knowledge, his skill in managing the boat and his appreciation of Doug’s needs. The Pope’s Eye, a navigational guide, , is large U-shaped pile of rocks, inside Port Phillip just 15 minutes boat ride from Queenscliffe.  They also saw Shearwaters by the thousand and an Albatross.  They came home glowing with success

Doug now has some stunning photographs of Australasian Gannets, Ruddy Turnstones and more Cormorants to add to his collection.

Doug was delighted when one of his photographs made the front cover of the Australian Veterinary Journal - Jan/Feb 2006 Issue.
