Your bird may simply have decided it was time for it to be eaten:

"The Indian chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar chukar) is the most suitable
species of partridge for commercial production. There is a steady demand for
them from the restaurant trade in Melbourne, but they have an unstable
fertility rate and susceptibility to temperature change which makes them
difficult to produce."

However it seems no more imports are allowed:
