I've just come back from a couple of days fishing on Yakaba Head, Hawks Nest, about 200k's north of Sydney. The fishing and birding were both moderate at best. A few Sea Eagles being the main attraction, and a little penguin visited a few times.
My main question is, how does one differentiate an Arctic from a Common tern in the field (I poured a cup of tea on my keyboard and none of the punctuation is working). All the birds we saw had red beaks, but were otherwise too far away to tell accurately.
