Hi All.
Just reporting that 4 of us (Alan Morris, Allan and
Robin Benson and I) from the Central Coast, NSW, headed down to Cheetham
Wetlands yesterday to try for the Little Stint. We were fortunate to meet the
Ranger, John, at the gates and he took us in. Saved a long walk. Along with 2
others, Giles (surname escapes me, sorry) and Alistair Stewart, we searched
extensively through the thousands of waders but had no luck.
We then checked along the bay where Rohan Clarke
had reported seeing it, but again, despite seeing many Red-necked Stints, no
Little. The rains came and eventually we gave up our search.
We were disappointed, but I was impressed with my
first visit to this area, We saw many waders including RN Stints, Curlew,
Marsh and Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, a single Great Knot and Bar-tailed
Godwit, Greenshanks and Red-capped Plovers. It's a terrific place to
visit.
Thanks to the rangers, John, Bernie and Alex for
their help, and others for their posts to Birding-Aus.
Rob Quinan Central Coast, NSW.
