Hi Birders,
Margaret Sykes asked the question about why a pair of Cuckoo-shrikes removed
a nest after the toung had successfully fledged. My suggestion is that they
wanted to build a new nest for a second clutched and preferred a new site so
they removed the material elsewhere!
Many birds the size of BFCS have multiple nests in a season, ie
Magpie-larks, Striped & Blue-faced Honeyeaters, Little & Red Wattlebirds
etc, sometimes they build new nests, sometimes they re-use old nests and
some birds remove material from one nest and use it in another nest.
As Cuckoo-shrikes around my way start nesting in Sept-Oct, and others are
nesting around Christmas, I am sure that they have two clutches.
