Thank you to all those kind birders who gave us information re locating these two species last week.

We were very successful with the chestnut rail from the boatramp at Buffslo Creek at c. 6.45 am with incoming tide about 2 hours out and therefore not ideal. We had very good sightings of two birds.

On the Fogg Dam turnoff, we spend a great deal of time looking for the letter-winged kite but all the 5 kites we saw were black-shouldered. In each case we saw them flying so there was no doubt.

Chestnut Quilled Rock Pigeons were very visible at Plumtree Creek although very soon that Gumlon Road will be closed for the wet season. It has already been down-graded to 4WD only and we had 33mm of rain at Mary River last Wednesday night.

But we still had a most enjoyable birding trip.

Thanks,

Fiona Anderson
