Hello all,
The Regent H was last seen here on 23 Oct before we left for Healsville BOCA
camp. We returned home late on 29th and have checked several times each day
since. Very few birds still using the lemon-scented which has very little
blossom left.
The leucoxylon also faded but now has had a second wind and is again
attracting a lot of birds. Today a female Scarlet H spent a lot of time in
it - the first SH sighting since 22nd Oct.
A pleasant surprise, also today in the leucoxylon, was the appearance of a
White-fronted HE, well known from our Mildura days but a new and unexpected
bird for us here.
The garden and the countryside still look great following more rain.
Migrants/visitors are scarce - The Leaden Flycatchers are still here and the
Bee-eaters are being heard a bit but seldom seen, the Western Gerygone are
calling lot mostly from high in the red gums (so I don't think that they
are nesting yet?), White-throated Gerygone were here for a couple of weeks
but seem to be absent now and one or more Olive-backed Orioles are heard
every day but the only cuckoo has been an occasional Fan-tailed. On Thursday
we saw Rufous Songlarks at Caniambo about 20km N of here .
