The pair of Radjah Shelducks were found today at Mungo Brush
campsite after 5 mins of arriving. They were on the bank of
the lake about 50m from the boat ramp on the northern side
resting amongst Melaleucas and Casuarinas. Some nearby
campers showed me some pictures they had taken yesterday
afternoon, showing the ducks walking around their caravan.
While I was photographing the pair (from 5m away), a medium-
sized Lace Monitor (Goanna) walked between myself and the
ducks, which surprised them as much as it did me. The goanna
carried on its way and the ducks remained on the bank, but
the male was very annoyed by the event.
I spent about half an hour in their presence (11:30am -
12pm) until I had to return to Wollongong.
A nice lifer (for me and the Musk Duck swimming nearby!),
Happy birding,
Nigel
