Our first local Koel on Sunday, 2nd October. That just about completes the
set for summer visitors hereabouts - apart from Swifts that is.
Sacred Kingfishers, Dollarbirds and Channel-billed Cuckoos are now daily
birds again. Horsfields Bronze-cuckoo has been calling all morning.
Local fig trees are now in fruit and attracting Wompoo Fruit-doves in
numbers, 8 in one tree at Ravensbourne the other day.
Raptors over the weekend included a dynamic Black Falcon speeding through,
Australian Hobby similarly, Brown Falcons, several Brown Goshawks, two
Pacific Bazas close to Laidley, Wedge-tailed Eagle and White-bellied
Sea-eagles (Little Eagles having departed) Swamp Harrier, Whistling Kites,
and of course numerous Black-shouldered Kites and Nankeen Kestrels.
More Latham's Snipe are turning up, and a knot of ten or so Marsh Sandpipers
have finally appeared.
