Emus near the coast in QLD

Some Canadian birders I met today asked me if the was any chance of seeing an Emu driving from Brisbane to Cairns. I said very little unless they went well inland.

Just as a matter of interest - where do Emus occur in QLD? The Atlas shows them all over the place but are there any reliable places close to the coast?
