May I suggest to anyone seriously interested in the health risk posed by
bird flu, that they buy or borrow the book "The Beginner's Guide to Winning
the Nobel Prize" by Peter Doherty*, and read the section on influenza, pp
133-136.
Professor Doherty and his Swiss colleague Rolf Zinkernagle won the 1996
Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine for discovering 'the nature of the
cellular immune defence', which of course, is what is involved in the
operation of, for example, 'flu vaccination.
One may therefore take his account of the situation as authoritative.
