Hi all,

Today while finishing up on a shorebird study for uni,
Nathan Waugh, Adam Moore and I observed the following:

Comerong Nature Reserve (Shoalhaven Heads)
59 Bar-tailed Godwits
35 Pacific Golden Plovers
23 Red Knots
18 Eastern Curlews
17 Red-necked Stints
6 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers
3 Curlew Sandpipers
2 Pied Oystercatchers
1 Red-capped Plover

Other interesting sightings here were:
3 Glossy Black-Cockatoos
2 Gull-billed Terns
2 Caspian Terns
1 Australian Hobby feeding on a Red-necked Stint (only the
head remained)
1 Swamp Harrier
1 White-bellied Sea-eagle
1 Little Egret
18 Topknot Pigeons
several flocks of White-fronted Chats
2 Brush Cuckoos calling

Wingdang estuary (Lake Illawarra, Wollongong)
9 Pied Oystercatchers
11 Red-capped Plovers
7 Red-necked Stints
3 Masked Lapwings
1 Ruddy Turnstone
1 Double-banded Plover

2 Kelp Gulls (1 adult, 1 juv.) were also roosting in the
estuary

Overall there was a good shorebird diversity around the area
with numbers of birds and species on the increase. Hopefully
something along the lines of a Phalarope will turn up soon!

Cheers,
Nigel
