As promised, here's another request for
information.
In addition to the more specific stuff below we are
on the lookout for any stake-outs (day or night) for night birds on our route,
even the "common" stuff, because, apart from Barn Owl, they're all
lifers!
Also any updates on what's in Thomas & Thomas
would be most useful.
Our route is as follows:
one day around Sydney, the plan being: the
Illawarra Highway at dawn for Lyrebirds (is this still relevant?), the Barren
Grounds am, Royal NP pm (are Origmas a morning-only bird, though?). How long
should we allow for the drive to the airport from there on a Friday evening
given that we need to be there for about 6.30pm? Directions for Magic Pt would
also be helpful for later. And can anyone recommend a cheap place to camp at the
bottom of the Illawarra Highway?
After that we fly to Cairns and our route will
hopefully be as follows:
Cairns/Atherton area
Eungella H'eater (is Dalrymple Rd still the
place?)
Inskip Pt
Lamington
Bowra (anywhere half decent we can break the
journey west from Lamington would be good)
Strzelecki Track (again, anywhere en route
Bowra-Innamincka)
likewise somewhere to break the drive from Mt
Lyndhurst Station to NW Victoria.
Victorian mallee (any decent wetland sites in the
Wyperfeld/Hattah area?)
Somewhere we can go for Superb Parrot on the way
back to Sydney (no, we've not been able to get on a Deniliquin tour), and
anything else worth stopping for on this drive.
Hope someone can be of help
Steve Keen
