white-tailed Black Cockatoo

I have just received a telephone call from my bird watching father-in-law in Alstonville (NSW far north coast). On Wednesday this week he saw three cockatoos which in his words were ‘unmistakeably white-tailed black cockatoos’. With their range shrinking in WA I can only assume that, if they were as described then, they are escapees. Has anyone in the north coast region seen similar birds?

Regards

Alastair
