A Channel-billed Cuckoo flew noisily south across Mayfair Rd. Mulgoa
yesterday about 8.00am as I walked up the hill, another, perhaps the same
one, flew north on the downhill walk, and ?another was calling half way down
on the south side. A Shining Bronze Cuckoo was upsetting a family of Superb
Fairy-Wrens in the Valley.
Six Wood Duck chicks on a dam with motherduck.A Masked Plover
squatting nearby. Jacky Winters have been year-round residents, a male has
been calling loudly for three weeks, sounds a bit like White-winged Triller.
A Red Wattle-bird was on the trunk of an Ironbark, moving up and down,
feeding on something in the fissures. A Sparrowhawk landed on the
canary-cage last week, and yesterday a Hobby was circling over the paddock
behind our house. Spotted and Striated Pardalotes nesting, also Little White
Cormonants, on their usual branches in the Weeping Willow over the Mayfair
Rd dam.
The dawn chorus about 6.45 am is fantastic.
                                                 Cheers
                                                       Michael
