Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes turn up in flocks of 20-30 birds at Kiunga, Western Province PNG each April, and are present throughout the winter months; I always assumed they were Australian migrants, as they come in along with the Channel-billed Cuckoos and Australian Koels. We would also get small numbers of Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfishers, even up to 500m at Tabubil in the hills there, though Hooded Pitta would also turn up in July so local movements are also involved and the P-K could perhaps be from local PNG birds. Amazing how migration in this part of the world is so different to the much more clear-cut mainly N-S movements in Europe and N. America.
