Yesterday in our Mulga country I watched a R'backed Kingfisher for 15 mins. or so at the very top of a dead tree {about 20 metres?}. A solitary harsh call every 10 seconds or so alerted me to  its presence. I would be very interested to know if this call is a breeding time call or the call it makes at all times.
I've seen Redbacked Kingfishers in our houseyard for many years, but never heard them call.
