Just passing on an observation reported to me by long-standing birdo Fred T. H. Smith of Kew in Melbourne.

On 27 August 2005 a birding friend of Fred's (Fred Anderson) recorded a Yellow Wagtail at the Broadford Sewage ponds which are adjacent to the Hume Freeway north of Melbourne.  The sewage ponds are just north of the town and require permission to access I believe.

The Atlas of Victorian Wildlife currently has no records of the species for Victoria so this may be a first sighting of the species.

cheers, Martin
