I don't agree that the mystery can't be solved just because 4 potential contenders have been suggested.  Australian Hobby and Brown Falcon can be definitely ruled out because the tail protrudes too far past the wing tips to make it a falcon.  There are other less obvious reasons.  So it comes down to Collared Sparrowhawk or Brown Goshawk.  Jeff Davies has eloquently described the respective tail shapes of the the two Accipiters and states/suggests that it is a male Brown Goshawk.  I fully agree with him.
