Google advise that they have access to the whole Earth mapped at 15m per pixel on your screen, however they also have access to some higher resolution images, mainly of U.S. Cities, but also many other cities (most of Sydney is covered, but not parts of the CBD or the North Shore.

 

These higher resolution images are at either 2 ft per pixel, or 1 ft per pixel (these are the ones where you can see cars and planes on the ground).
