Further to this string, we are not the only geographic area with names that are prosaic or could be construed as unimaginative and uninspiring, but it doesn't seemed to have stopped Europeans (who have Greater, Middle and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers; Thrush-Nightingales; lots of "something" warblers) or Americans (Blue-Gray, Black Capped and Black Tailed Gnatcatchers and 30 odd species of "something" sparrow) being enthusiastic about birds and birding. There's more than the names behind a lack of interest.
