I was here today (I had to drive to Toowoomba anyway, and there was one
Shoveller only visible. This had a head which showed green when the light
caught it just so but when it turned it was grey. The front was darkish, not
white, and the crescent on the head was visible though a scope.
So, a probable furphy.

Subject: Northern Shoveler report
I heard this-morning about a report on the BQ website of a Northern Shoveler
at Lake Freeman, Gatton yesterday afternoon, so I went over after breakfast
for a look.
I found about 9 pairs of Aussie Shoveler, 2 Freckled Duck, 3 pairs of Cotton
Pygmy-goose along with two full grown imms, lots of Pink-eared Duck, hordes
of Plumed Whistling-duck, Chestnut Teal, in fact 12 duck species in all as
well as Magpie Geese and Black Swans with young. There were about a dozen
Comb-crested Jacana, Glossy Ibis, herons, spoonbills, and 23 other waterbird
species, as well as White-bellied Sea-eagle, Whistling Kite,
Black-shouldered Kite, and lots more - but I couldn't find the Northern
Shoveler.
I'll go for another look sometime soon, but if anyone does catch up with the
bird, please give me a phone call or an email - I'd love to get a
photograph.
