Regarding Tom Tarrant's posting about his visit to the Traprock area in
which "Glenelg" is situated.
It is a fairly dependable location for Squatter Pigeons, but even there they
are becoming scarcer by the roadsides as 'progress' bitumens more and more
previously dirt roads. In recent years, several of the roads where I used to
see Squatters around the Cement Mills area have been sealed, and the
Squatters just don't turn up along the roadsides so much. They might still
be only a few metres away, blending into the dirt and sparse vegetation, but
not nearly so likely to be spotted from the road.
Twenty or so years ago, I used to see Squatter Pigeons here in the Lockyer
Valley. One location was along Greenswamp Road, which runs northwards past
Lake Clarendon. A dirt road then, it's sealed now, and I haven't seen a
Squatter along there for years.

Hi All,
Marie and I travelled to Inglewood (Qld) at the weekend and yesterday
drove up Cement Mills road in search of Squatter Pigeons (...which we
sadly failed to find)
Not far from the quarry we found a nice group of Turquoise Parrots,
Diamond Firetails, Hooded Robins plus many Little Lorikeets, Dusky
Woodswallow and Red-winged Parrots and then realised we were very
close to the 'Glenelg' Station boundary. However despite the flowering
Yellow Box there were no sign of Regents.
It will certainly be sad if this property's conservation value is
reduced at the auction later in the week.
