I now learn that the Yellow Wagtail has been there since early May! The
information was not released because it was in a restricted area of the
plant. Access is allowed to parts of the plant by permit holders only. The
area normally frequented by the Wagtail, and often the N. Shoveler, is
within the restricted area so even permit holders should not proceed into
those areas. This includes the section north of the Borrow Pits. To do so
could jeopardize your permit and the whole permit system.
But birders wishing to search these areas for either of the above
species are invited to contact Will Steele of Melbourne Water. Will has
kindly offered to escort persons into these areas by prior arrangement. He
may be contacted at work on (03) 9235 7287.
