Today I confirmed that there was a group of up to 8 Gang-gang cockatoos
frequenting a schoolyard in East Ringwood. They've been there for at
least the last 3 days. That's when my daughter first said she'd seen
grey birds with red heads in the playground. Today I managed to totally
embarrass her by being outside her classroom at pick-up time with a pair
of binoculars. She's putting her foot down at my idea of taking a
camera tomorrow :(
Last week I also had a group of around 10 Long-billed corellas feeding
on the grass in my horse paddocks in Warrandyte South, near Ringwood.
There has also been large groups of YTBCs (up to around 50) fly over a
couple of times. Up until the other week smaller groups of them
frequented the property, often drinking from the dam and water troughs,
in between feeding on pine cones but they now seem to be only flying
over in much larger groups.
Cheers,
Karen Pearson
